Welcome Back from Mexico Peter Doucet and Morgane Echardour

July 22, 2014

TISC’s Morgane Echardour and Peter Doucet were back at practice last night after spending 9 days in Mexico representing Canada at the Pan American Festival. TISC duo joined Christopher Fiola, Valerie Maltais, and coach Simon Clement at the competition on a 200m banked track in Puebla.

Canada’s selection earned three top 5 placements! Unfortunately for Echardour, she battled stomach ailments and suffered a shoulder and arm injury after falling during the 10km points and elimination race.

Doucet put up his best efforts with his best placement being 14th place. He is starting to make a comeback to the international scene after suffering a concussion last year and also spending a lot of time supporting a close family member’s 3 year battle with cancer.

Despite some rain during the event, skaters came from Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and the USA to showcase their speeds!

TISC’s Maggie Dort and Kerry Taylor finished 2nd and 3rd overall in the women’s 42km, while Peter Doucet reached the 3rd step of the overall 42km podium.

A number of TISC’ers reached put up age-class podium finishes!

Thank you to every single volunteer and official who helped. You made this year’s event possible. A particular thank you to Eric Gee and Alain Quintard who helped with the pre-event work. A team of 10 volunteers (the Fiola/ Bois family, the Langridge family, the Doucet/ Echardour family, and the Gee/ Quintard duo) all pitched-in to prepare the course.

See you in 2015!

Alex Rudy skated a personal-best 26.5-second 300-meter time trial. His time ranked 3rd overall of the entire competition up to the senior men’s 300-meter final. Shannon Hegarty and Morgane Echardour secured a 2-3 finish, contesting with and chasing Quebec’s Valerie Maltais. Peter Doucet came in with a 3rd overall finish in the senior men’s 15km elimination while Leo Echeverri came in 5th in the 300-meter senior men’s final. Young Chris Langridge finished his 300-meter time trial in a personal best time.

Maggie Dort moved up into the senior women’s category and looked very comfortable in the 500-meter sprint. Kerry Taylor skated in the masters category, paired up with TISC’s great Alain Quintard! The two worked to keep with Chris Langridge and Jeff Langridge in the 5k race, but it was the Langridge duo besting the field!

Outside of TISC’s practice nights, Williams, Nikodym, and Hegarty can often be spotted logging miles and training at Max Ward Park in Mississauga near Pearson International Airport.
